Designs by Talon was founded by Rick Gonyo, a graduate of Empire State College where he studied design, space planning, and business. While residing in New York, he designed several home renovations. He relocated to Dallas, Texas where he spent five years in project management, including space planning and design of office space for major corporations.
Rick went on to work with accomplished costume designer Marita Beth Caruthers of A Wardrobe in Time to expand on his earlier experience in sewing leather garments and to apprentice in the construction of Renaissance garb. He has settled into the Austin, Texas area where he attended the Austin School of Fashion Design and eventual went on to teach courses in costuming at the school.
Rick has developed a specialty for Asian-influenced attire and costuming. Over the years he has filled a niche in the community through convention sales and numerous commissions for costumes, bedding, home decorations, bags, and other accessories.
In 2007, 1 of his costume designs won first place at the Ghoulwill Ball by Goodwill.
Rick has extended into the world of fashion creating garments that combine elements of eastern and western culture. This includes from creating traditional asian garb with a relaxed American attitude or whimsey to designing sexy, elegant evening/cocktail wear with Asian touches similar to influences that appeared in vintage period fashions.
