Well the craziness never seems to end for us here. Just when we think we have a chance to rest and recover then we're onto more exciting projects.
First of all Designs by Talon had a wonderful time at Ikkicon. We made respectable sales and had numerous patrons who responded to our merchandise. It was gratifying to see some of our favorite pieces being fawned over and sold. Our first convention was a really great experience. We learned a lot, networked with some great vendors, got to see the amazing work of Outland Armour and became members of the Fork Universe Empire. A side effect of it all is that we are committed to the San Japan Convention July 9th to 11th in San Antonio TX.
Ushicon was also enjoyable. Though a much smaller anime event, we had the opportunity to still connect with some great people. We along with the folks from Outrageous Outfits gave a successful panel on costuming. It makes us feel good that we could provide useful insight on costuming to people.
Images from both Ikkicon and Ushicon can be seen at Robyn's Roost.
Also very exciting for us is the start of the Austin Costumers Guild. The Austin area has many talented costumers of broad variety yet amazingly, most of us are unaware of each other and disconnected. We have just started this Yahoo group to solve this problem. Our goal is to bring different costumers together to support each other and share our skills and learn from each other. We welcome and encourage all people who are interested to join our group regardless of skill level and experience. Again the goal is to connect with each to enhance our costuming community through knowledge and activities.
In fact the first event to come will be Oscar Night at the Driskell. On March 7th, we are working with the Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival (aGLIFF) on their annual charity event. Proceeds will go to support aGLIFF, its programs with Out Youth, and will also benefit the Paul Kirby Emergency Fund at AIDS Services of Austin. The party will celebrate the Oscars with a costume contest were attendees are encouraged to come as their favorite film character. Fabulous prizes will be awarded to the top costumes.

Just taking a moment to breath in the midst of crazy preparations for Ikkicon. Isn't it amazing how no matter how well you plan, some form of chaos seems through.
The Lone Star Shindig was an enjoyable event. The cold, winter weather kept many of the registrants away that weekend unfortunately. Those who did make it seemed to enjoyed our designs as well as those from Outrageous Outfits. The sanctuary of Grace Methodist proved to be an excellent venue and highlights of the show can be seen here
I have added some of those pics in the asian gallery as well as that of my latest creation-a gorgeous full length kimono with a matching obi. This will proudly be on display at our table at Ikkicon. I hope to find the right person to give it a good home.
Finally we want to promote a wonderful new store in Austin, The Common Thread. For years Austin has been in dire need of a fabric store like this one. They stock and can special order beautiful, higher end quality fabrics that you will not find in the typical chain stores. What's more the price are relatively affordable. Please stop by and support this establishment.
Here we are at Ushicon being ominous
